About

I build things at the intersection of culture, knowledge, and community: books, archives, partnerships, and programs that connect people with documentary heritage and with each other. My work is centred on the Northwest Atlantic and Circumpolar North, where for more than a decade I have worked with northern institutions and communities on questions of access, stewardship, media, and cultural self-determination.

That work has taken many forms. I have directed cultural organizations and research programs, worked within governments and institutions, built and returned digital archives, curated film programs, taught and conducted research, and facilitated community conversations about media, archives, and heritage. From 2016 to 2025, much of this work was undertaken with the Nunatsiavut Government and the OKâlaKatiget Society in Labrador.

I am also a writer, editor, and publisher. Through Brack and Brine, I publish books about Newfoundland and Labrador culture and history, including Labrador Cinema, co-authored with Morgen Mills. My writing ranges from scholarly research to essays and public-facing work on film, archives, media, and cultural history.

Speaking and Media

I regularly speak about northern film and media, documentary heritage, archives, and music through public talks, panels, interviews, and radio. My work has appeared in conversations with cultural organizations, festivals, broadcasters, and community media in Canada and internationally.

Music

Music has been a continuous part of my work, as a musician, researcher, and producer. Much of my recent work has centred on the Moravian brass band tradition of northern Labrador, developed through long-term collaboration with Inuit musicians and communities in Nunatsiavut. This has included historical research, recording and production, archival work, and the release of two albums with Labrador Inuit brass bands.

Since 2011, I have worked closely with Labrador Inuit brass musicians in Nunatsiavut, including travelling and performing with Nainip Tittulautingit | Nain Brass Band in Canada and Germany. I worked as a researcher and producer on Nainip Tittulautingit | Nain Brass Band (2017) and co-produced and performed on Trumpet Hymns | Imgiguset (2016), a recording of tenor and trumpet duets featuring vocalist Karrie Obed.

My recording work has also included co-producing two albums with singer-songwriter Ian Foster: Close to the Bone (2023) and Nerve (2024). From 2001 to 2015, I was the guitarist for the St. John’s/Toronto-based rock band King Nancy, which released three albums.
